Our story

From one core banking system to a full enterprise portfolio.

We started in 2018 because Malawi's financial institutions were choosing between expensive foreign systems with poor local support and legacy tools that could not keep pace. We built the alternative.

How we got here

Built because the alternative did not exist.

In 2018, a Malawian financial institution looking for a core banking system had two options. It could licence a foreign platform priced for a European bank, wait for support from a timezone eight hours away, and pay again every time it needed a change. Or it could keep running tools that had stopped keeping pace years earlier and hope nothing broke.

Rowland Buathera, Clifford P. Mwale and Alex Ken Piringu founded Maziko Financial Technologies to build the third option: MX Core, a core banking system robust enough for a bank and affordable enough for a SACCO, made by people who could be in the building the same afternoon.

In 2019 it went live with MlimiPay, putting seeds and fertiliser on affordable instalments for smallholder farmers. In 2020 the Malawi ICT Innovation Awards named us Best FinTech Company in Malawi.

The name stopped fitting.

By 2024 the enquiries had outgrown financial services. Gaming operators wanted a platform. Travel companies wanted a booking channel. Corporates and NGOs wanted communications infrastructure that reached people without smartphones. Companies wanted business email they could pay for in Kwacha.

So we rebranded to Maziko Technologies. Not a logo exercise — a deliberate move from fintech specialist to full-spectrum enterprise technology partner, with the portfolio to back the claim.

Today we are incorporated under the Malawi Companies Act as a private limited company, running eight platforms in market, with regional expansion ahead.

“The Pursuit of Amazing”

Three words that say everything about how we work. We do not build software to tick boxes — we build technology that genuinely amazes the people who use it.

The company

Registered, resident and accountable in Malawi.

Maziko Technologies Limited is a private limited company registered under the Companies Act (Cap. 46:03), Government of Malawi, and operating from Area 49, Lilongwe. We were formerly Maziko Financial Technologies Limited.

That matters for more than paperwork. Public institutions and regulated financial clients increasingly need suppliers whose data, staff and legal accountability sit inside the country. Ours do.
